More Granny Squares

Hello, hello! It's been a while, hasn't it? I have been on holiday and had an AMAZING time. I went to Iceland for a week and have come back with sparkles in my eyes. It's an incredible country, with wild, rugged, breath-takingly beautiful landscapes. I intend to write a post soon about it, since the country is crazy about wool and I brought back a suitacaseful of it. Oh yes, I did!

But for now... here is an update on the Blanket. Which, conveniently, will allow me to take part in Jijihook's Granny Love Challenge. If you're into granny squares, too, you should definitely take part, it's great fun and there is absolutely no pressure. Plus it's an excellent way to discover other crocheters' work. Click on the link above if you're interested!

So, I have to say the Blanket has been progressing rather well since I last blogged about it. As a matter of fact, I feverishly crocheted a series of circles before I left for Iceland so I could make the square edging while on holiday. Since all squares have the same white edging, I find it easier to make the circles first, usually when it's still daylight so I get a better feel of the colour combinations:

How cute are these little fellows? That's eye candy for sure, and not a calorie in sight. I am having tremendous fun mixing and matching and experimenting with the colours on this project. So far, I haven't made one single identical square. Not one. Oh, sure, some are very close, but not one is exactly the same. All these colours make me very happy indeed.

So, ready for a few close-ups of finished squares? (well, nearly finished... I still need to weave in the ends, but shh...)

Here goes :)

Oooh, they look so fluffy!!!! Any particular favourite? Personally, I really like the ones with a combination of green and pink. Oh, I can't wait for the Blanket to be finished so that I can snuggle up in it! But when will it be finished, I hear you ask (or maybe it's my imagination...)? Weeeell, so far I've made 42 squares (that is, 39 full squares and 3 circles). I need a 140x150cm blanket, and each square is roughly 10cm. Minus a, say, 5cm edging, that's 130x140cm of granny squares, so 13x14=182 squares. I think I've got my work cut out, don't you? Let's say I'm almost a quarter of the way through, and here's how it looks:

That's it. The whole lot so far. I really enjoy spreading them out now and then to take a good look at the colour combinations and get some further inspiration. Only yesterday, I was toying with the idea of adding more colours to the 12 shades I am already using. Possibly some red, and more shades of mauve/purple/pink. We'll see how it goes.

Are you working on a big project at the moment? How's it going for you? Let me know!

xoxo :)
