The Final Christmas Gift - Crochet Wall Art

Hello, my dear readers! This post is the final installment of the Christmas Gifts Showcase Series. This particular gift started with one single ball of Noro yarn, out of which I made circles of varying sizes and colours.

When I made the circles almost a year and half ago, my original idea was to sew them onto a big crochet bag. But time went by, and the circles remained tucked away in their tin box, as no crochet bag ever materialised.

Recently, I thought about the project again and realised that a bag might not be the best way to showcase the layout I had come up with, and from then on I knew that the circles would become part of a wall art piece. Then I decided I would make a Christmas gift out of it.

So let's have a look:

I sewed all circles on a large piece of cream felt with invisible thread. I had a little bit of a nightmare using the invisible thread because it is, well, invisible, and therefore very easy to lose sight of, especially when you belong to the blind-as-a-bat species... Anyway, I managed to do it in the end, and put the finishing touch to the project by adding a row of blanket stitches and slip stitches all around the felt rectangle. Ideally I should have waited to take pictures until AFTER I'd blocked the piece, but daylight was fast dwindling unfortunately. So, sorry about those wrinkles!

Here are some pictures of details:

And this concludes the Christmas Gifts Series! About time as well, since this is nearly the end of January :D

Thank you for reading anyway, and see you soon for more crafty adventures!

Christmas gifts continued - Le Bunny Encore

Hello! Christmas may seem like a distant memory by now, but I still have a couple of handmade Christmas presents to show you.

You might remember this plush bunny I made for a friend's baby back in December. Well, I have another friend who's really into bunnies and music, so I thought I'd combine the two and revisit Le Bunny. This time, I used fabric for the body and felt for the tummy and inside of ears, and swapped the carrot for a couple of music notes.

And this was the result:

So here you have it, Le Bunny revisited. My only non crochet handmade Christmas gift of 2014. I shall be back soon with one last gift. In the meantime, thanks for reading! :)

Christmas Gifts - A Ruffled Scarf

Hello, hello!

Continuing the Christmas gifts series, here is a ruffled scarf I made for a friend, following this super easy pattern, by Rachel from Crochet Spot. I have just realised that the pattern is actually in US terms, and so the "trebles" I made ended up being US dcs, which is probably why I had to add a row in the end. But hey, I still really like it! :D

Now, because the pattern requires you to double the amount of stitches with every row, bear in mind that this project is quite yarn-hungry, so make sure you have enough to start with. I think I used roughly three 100g balls of DK acrylic for the main colour, and maybe 20-25g for the contrasting colour.

Isn't the ruffling effect beautiful? And that contrasting row at the end, I simply love it.

Look at that! So snuggly!

This scarf was actually part of a series of three I completed last year, with two of them being given away as gifts last Christmas, the first in the same acrylic yarn, but with the colours reversed:

...and the second one, in the super luxurious Rowan Cocoon, now a firm favourite of mine (but not of my wallet's). I used for a hat this year, as well as for wristwarmers.

They're quite addictive to make, so be warned! ;-)

Thanks for reading and see you soon for more Christmas gifts reveals!

Christmas Gifts - Cabled Crochet Hat

Hello everyone! Did you have a good Christmas? Mine was a bit of a first in various aspects but all in all very enjoyable.

So, after crocheting and crafting like crazy to finish the gifts in time, I thought I'd give you a little taste of what I made. Last week, I showed you a little granny square bag that was part of the lot, so this week, it's on to a cabled hat I made following this free Ravelry pattern by Nancy Smith.

It was fairly easy to make, and worked up relatively quickly in Rowan Cocoon and a 6mm crochet hook. The cabled pattern gives this hat a firm and thick texture that is perfect for very cold days.

I chose to work the cables in a straight pattern fashion, but the pattern allows you to work them in spiral if you prefer. (A big thank you to Mr Little Crochet for agreeing to model the hat... No mean feat, I tell ya!)

Finally, the "wrong" side of the hat can be worn outside for a different textured look, as long as you weave in your ends neatly - which I confess I didn't do...

So, the perfect Christmas gift, and easily customisable according to taste and/or gender. One to make again, for sure!

Thanks for reading :)

Wednesday Granny Squares - An Air of Christmas

Hello everyone! Well, after an afternoon spent making chocolates, I have just remembered that it might well be Christmas Eve, but it's still a Granny Square Wednesday.

What with all the Christmas preparations, I haven't had time to do much new in terms of grannies, so I thought I'd show you an older cohort, which have been gracing my hallway for the past few months. And only today have I realised that they actually look quite Christmas-y, so that's absolutely perfect!

Here goes:

I'll have loads to show you in a few days, but in the meantime, as always, go to Jijihook's to check out what the others have hooked up this week.

And of course, have a lovely Christmas!

Wednesday Grannies - A Christmas Gift

Hello everyone! For this week's granny square challenge, I am featuring the first of my Christmas makes - or at least the beginning of it - destined to be a gift. It's currently in its early stages, but it's relatively small so should be done rather quickly (well, I hope so, anyway!).

Here goes:

15 mini granny squares in total. I have a thing for those, I find them almost unbearably cute! Can you guess what I'll be making with them? And what are you making for Christmas?

As always, go have a look at more granny squares at Jijihook's. Thanks for reading and see you next week!
